Day 3
Today we set off early and headed towards Ottawa which took us about 2 hours to get there, we had no intention of staying overnight in Ottawa but did want to see a fair amount of the countries Capital. we parked up and gave ourselves an hour, (well the fact that we only had $3 in change meant we had 1 hour on the meter). So thanks to a new book we purchased we walked straight to the Parliament building where there is a mounty on horseback, yes very corny but a good photo opportunity, after that we walked down to the locks on the river to watch the guys at work getting various boats down onto the river below, a quick walk past a few more spots mentioned in the book and we were back at the car with 15 minutes to spare so we had a quick drink in a pub, From Ottawa Lorna pointed out that she wanted to go to the Hershey chocolate factory in Smith Falls, only after a 1 hour drive we discovered it was closed down, so disappointed we started to make our way to Toronto, but knew we would not make the 350 odd miles to the city but wanted to get over as far as we could. We stopped off in a small town called Perth on route 7 which was lovely, we stumbled on this great spot with a lake restaurant and pub and various shops in a old stock building. We had a very average lunch but the settings made up for it. From here it was a fairly long journey to are final stop for today, Peterborough where we found a nice clean and new Motel 6 with a really nice steak house across the road. So a tiring day with over 500km travelled but we are only a hour or so from Toronto.
